Richard Adams has been cycling for 25 years and has completed 22 - Cape Argus Cycle Tours, 14 - 94.7 Cycle Challenges and 5 - Kremetart 175k races.

This year Richard will be using his PEDAL POWER for a great purpose, by taking part in the CYCLE TOUR OF HOPE.

The Cycle Tour of Hope is an annual event run by Rays of Hope, a charity initiative which focusses on the upliftment of the Alexandra Township and Community. A select group of cyclists, who are passionate and committed to this cause, aim to raise a cumulative target of R 600 000 for Rays of Hope.

The Cyclists will complete 365 kms over a period of four days from Golden Gate to the Rosebank Union Church in Johannesburg, from the 23rd - 26th October 2014.

Rays of Hope has been operating since 1991 and strives to create lasting change in the lives of over 1000 individuals, families and communities in Alexandra Township. This is achieved through a network of 12 projects with three key focus areas; the Vulnerable, Skills Development & Education.

Rays of Hope is registered as a Section 21 Company (registration no. 063 389-NPO ) and as a Public Benefit Organisation (PBO) (registration no. PBO 9300 26797) with Section 18A status which affords the donor tax deductibility.

The following operational principals guide the work of Rays of Hope:

- A narrow geographical reach in Alex Township in order to make a deep, lasting impact.

- Audited by Lloyd Viljoen. Financials available on request.

- Operates on low overheads with over 130 committed volunteers in 12 projects.

- Responsible use of resources, maximising benefit to donors and beneficiaries.

- Upliftment in an empowering manner, moving away from dependance on aid.

- Coordinated projects such as health care, crime-prevention, education and economic independence.

- Embedded in the fabric of the community through close relationships with key stakeholders.
