Rays of Hope Alexandra NPC

Rays of Hope Alexandra NPC is a non-profit company (063-389-NPO / 2004/010257/08) that has been touching and changing lives for good within the community of Alexandra township for over 30 years. Alex is home to approximately 1-million people living in 8km2 on the edge of Sandton. It is the primary destination on which rural immigration is focused; hence it is a diverse population, with a myriad of challenges. Rays of Hope works to stabilise and accelerate the development of resilient, skilled individuals and families that will pave the way for future generations through moving people from vulnerability to independence. Our work is focused in three areas: the vulnerable (UNDG 1, 2, 3, 5), education (UNDG 4) and career building (UNDG 8), and we have ten programmes running across the year in these areas. Through hands-on and long-term work, we have impacted thousands of individuals and families over the years.

Rays of Hope has a staff complement of over 40 people, with dozens of volunteers who make the programmes a success. We operate from a support office in Sandton, as well as a field office in Marlboro Gardens on the edge of Alexandra, where we own four properties.

The organisation works on a partnership model, whereby relationships are built to bring about change and long-term sustainable support to the people of Alexandra. Every year we impact over 700 people directly and thousands more indirectly. Rays of Hope also has active relationships with at least 30 other non-profit organisations working in Alex, as well as with schools, clinics, police and local government departments. Through these partnerships we further increase our impact in Alex, while simultaneously mentoring their leaders. We are also actively involved in the Alex Business network, which consists of over 150 small Alex-based businesses. As a result of these networks, in 2021 we impacted over 28,000 people through various initiatives.
