Popcorn Kidz NPC
We are a small private organisation, trading as a Non Profit Company (Section 21 Company without gain in terms of the old Companies Act), that originated through the hearts of Parents who wanted the best education for their special needs children situated in Northcliff, Johannesburg. Popcorn Kidz Tutor centre was established in 2009. We give children with various special needs, whether Autism, Down Syndrome etc., the opportunity to learn and to receive a purposeful education through one to one tutoring which are cost effective to their Parents.
The Management of Popcorn Kidz found it imperative that the children at the Tutor centre receive a structured education program which is adapted individually according to the needs and potential of each learner. An independent assessment is done on a regular basis by a SNAP (Special Needs Adaptable Programme) senior Educationalist. (www.snap.org.za for further information about the SNAP organisation). Our children are being tutored by fully trained tutors on a one to one basis.
To keep the centre’s doors open, we are dependent on fundraisers and donors as we get no subsidiaries form Government. We need funds to provide our tutors with ongoing training through SNAP, which are based in Cape Town. We also want to expand the centre and therefore we need to find a new suitable location and buy new specialised equipment. It is also our main mission to keep tutor fees as low as possible to make it possible for parents, who is not in a position to afford their kids to attend remedial or special needs private schools, to give their children a purposeful education.
We also have a long term vision to open an affordable special needs school as well as an adult training centre to provide special needs adults with the opportunity to learn and get trained in specific fields to enable them to be independent.
