WE NEED YOUR HELP! Those who have been following our Facebook page will know that there has been one critical part of our work that we have been battling with for several years - OUR VEHICLES. In August 2020, one of our inspectors was attending to a cruelty complaint when his vehicle broke down yet again. Fortunately, our other inspector was not attending to any emergencies at the time and could rush out and take the call to avoid an animal from suffering due to this breakdown. But, it could have had a very different outcome if our other vehicle and inspector were not available! So, with our hands in our hair, we paid the fees to have it fixed. Just as we thought we had recovered from the loss, the other vehicle broke down... Off we went to the mechanics and faced another hefty bill. In August alone, our society has spent over R16 000 fixing our vehicles!
Our society covers a vast area in Midrand including Allandale, Barbeque Downs, Halfway House, Kyalami, Waterfall, Ivory Park, Midrand Central, President Park, Glen Austin, Blue Valley, Riversands, Midstream and Olifanstfontein to name but a few! Our fleet as it is is not big enough to cover all 38 of our operational areas. Our vehicles cover rough terrains and we do a lot of mileage every month so we need tough bakkies to keep up. When we are not attending to cruelty complaints, rescues, pre- and post-home inspections or other animal-related emergencies, our inspectors are out doing pro-active inspections at sites where animals are housed or handled. These include hawking sites, boarding kennels, petting farms, stable yards, abattoirs, zoo's, sale yards, pet shops and security companies. Our need to replace our vehicles could not have come at a worse time as our country, citizens and supporters all face financial crisis. We know that this is a big ask, but we really need to urgently replace our fleet in order to avoid a scenario where we cannot attend to animal-related emergencies and cruelty complaints (not to even mention our pro-active work). We don't have the finances to continuously fix vehicles and the bills just don't stop coming. We know it's a lot, but if we could get 10 000 of our Facebook supporters to each donate R50 towards this project, we will be able to replace all 3 vehicles in our fleet with brand new vehicles that meet the criteria for the work that we do. Our vehicles play a critical role in helping us fight injustice towards our animals. Could you imagine if you had an animal-related emergency and we have to let you know that we cannot attend to your call because of a vehicle? We would not want to leave you feeling helpless or for that poor animal to suffer unnecessary pain because we could not attend to your emergency because of a vehicle... Will you help us?
