Aftermath of the festive season - an influx of stranded homeless pets

The Mdzananda Animal Clinic and Animal Welfare Society of South Africa are teaming up to fight the recent influx of homeless pets at our clinics and we need YOUR help.

While many enjoyed the festivities of the holiday season and New Year, Mdzananda Animal Clinic in Khayelitsha and the Animal Welfare Society in Philippi were placed under severe strain. Dogs and cats have poured through our front doors – some being handed over, others abandoned at our front gate and some even thrown over our walls during the night.

Both organisations always have an influx of surrendered pets during this time but 2018 was the worst we’ve ever experienced.

The homelsess pet surrender rate increased by nearly 200% during the festive season - this leaves our organisations under immense financial pressure well into the year - at least until April.

It takes an average of two months to rehome a pet (some have even stayed up to eight months before). It costs a minimum R2000 to care for one pet during these two months. Your donation, big or small, can help us care for a homeless pet until we can find them a new home.
