Personal message

My name is Zinhle Beauty Zungu. I am a 24-year-old BCom Accounting student at the University of KwaZulu Natal. I lost my parents at a very young age, my father when I was a year old and my mother when I was four years old.My mother worked as a domestic worker and the lady she worked for was kind enough to take over the role of being a mother after she passed away. I am grateful to the lady because of her heart of gold which gave me a second chance of having someone to call ‘mom’. She gave me a chance of being raised in a warm family. She has unconditional love and continues to care, support and love me. My biological mother’s dream was for me to go to good schools and be able to read and write English and she made all that possible. Unfortunately, as time went, she lost the ability to support me financially. I depended on her for everything and when her life came crumbling down, my life also took a turn for the worst. Most of the challenges I have encountered are financial, hence why I want to make a difference to young individuals who may encounter similar financial problems when I am blessed enough to be of help.

If I had to talk about my journey in detail, it would take forever but in summary, it has been a rollercoaster. My life journey has been a unique one. I believe that all challenges I have encountered are a preparation from God for the life that He has planned for me in future. For me, obstacles are not the end of the road, but are speed humps to slow me down to regain new strength.

I started 2023 with messages and phone calls that were harrasing me. It was difficult because I was scared and i hated to bother people. I would ask for assistance with no luck, and failed to get a student loan, since I was not funded. I kept going on with the hope that I will eventually get assistance. Debts kept accumulating interest until the threats got worse and serious that’s when I found myself taking loans of larger amounts to cover what I deemed as smaller loans. I found myself paying debts with other debts and now I am faced with over R30 000 in loans which give me sleepless nights. I live a life of pleading with people to be patient with me. The situation got worse as I received threats from strangers. I am scared for my life because I am a young female after all. On the 22nd of November 2023 I received over 30 calls from people I do not know demanding that I pay the money only to find that my details have been posted on social media by one of the people whom I owe. I have been labelled a thief, a liar and scammer, words I never in my years of being on this planet would have thought would be associated with my name. I have also sought help from SAPS, and I unfortunately do not have the funds to pursue the matter further.I know I am the one who took the money, and I am the one who made this mess, but I have been ethical and transparent to everyone I owe explaining that I am in a financial crisis. I have not blocked anyone that I owe money, but I guess we all react differently to our frustrations. I never thought I would find myself in a situation where even my reputation would be tarnished on social media.

I am only 2 modules away from completing my degree and this debt is an obstacle blocking me from the race which I am still determined to complete. That is why I am pleading for assistance to pay off debts that are bigger than a 24-year-old. With R35 000 I will be able to be free from all threats and harassments. My dignity, my reputation and peace of mind are held ransom by R35 000 and I am at wits end.

Any form of generosity will be highly appreciated.

Thank You
