I Forgot Who I Am and Where I Am Film Campaign

My name is Ara Bhabha and I'm the Producer on I Forgot Who I Am and Where I Am - a UCT Honours documentary, which focuses on dreams and their relationship with our innermost, repressed identities and experiences.

Our documentary explores the story of our main subject, Tumie, who is a mother, domestic worker, and dreamer. Her incredibly rich life, beautiful personality and intriguing story, drive this idea of dreams and how they become embedded in the fabric of who we are. Through the exploration of her dreams at night, we would like to probe into the greater issues of selfhood, identity politics and trauma. Thus, the film is an attempt to understand our dreams and reclaim ourselves within them.

Alessandro Gueli, the director of the film, shares a wonderful bond with Tumie, and notes the importance of exploring the narrative of dreams through the context of everyday people. Dreams are a shared space of collective consciousness, and something we all inherently reside in. Through this documentary, Alessandro asks us the important question: Are dreams not the truest reflections of who we are?

Seeing as we are a student production, we need all the assistance we can get to make this documentary and bring it to life. That is why we are asking you to support us in taking this project from a dream to a reality.
