Personal message

Meet Xavier Joubert, he is the quirkiest, coolest guy who loves dinosaurs, creepy creatures, and watching Transformers.

He is 14 years old and has been diagnosed with Mild Intellectual Disorder (MID) with comorbidities of autism, ADHD, dyspraxia, dyslexia, and dyscalculia.

That sounds like a lot right!! And it is... His mom Tammy is a Hero, she has raised him and his younger brother as a single mom for most of his life.

But as Xavier is getting bigger and stronger, he is becoming difficult to manage due to a behavior that he has adopted over the last year. He has become a flight and safety risk as whenever he goes out of his home he has the urge to run away, even jump out of a moving car, and this has put a major restriction on the family and their daily life. They simply cannot take him anywhere for fear of him hurting himself.

It has become clear that Xavier needs a specialized living structure to support his disability, which his mom can not offer from their home with her limited resources.

Thankfully, Woodside Sanctuary in Auckland Park has been identified as a suitable home that can provide the level of care Xavier needs to get him through this time of his teenage life.

The cost of the home is R19 500.00 (see note below for details) per month and we are looking to secure a 12-month stay for Xavier so we can monitor his progress and ensure that he gets the help and support he needs.

Note on fees:

The fees include full access to nursing care and a doctor, access to a psychiatrist, 24 hour a day care and treatment, a variety of stimulation programmes such as Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, and Remedial school, access to a social worker, three full meals per day as well as tea and snacks in between. This fee excludes Clothing & Medication.

In addition to this, Woodside does get various grants that assist with the cost of care for our residents. After being at Woodside for 3 months, our residents then qualify to receive two grants, depending on certain criteria. Residents who are South African citizens and are over 18 qualify for the Bed Grant and the SASSA disability grant, which are R5 526 and R2 080 respectively.

Residents who are South African citizens and under 18 only qualify for the Bed Grant of R5 526.

Any grants received for our residents are deducted from their total fees, so “if” Xavier were a resident at Woodside, he would qualify for the Bed Grant and his total monthly fee for all the services we offer would be R13 974 per month. (at current fee structure – annual increase implemented in April)

  • So R19490 for first 3 months
  • Thereafter – R13974 at current fee structure
All funds raised will go to paying Xaviers fees to live at Woodside Sanctuary for as long as he needs to be there to keep him safe and cared for.

Thank you for your support!!

Xavier needs a specialized Home Campaign

Charity Default Logo

Hi there! I'm Xavier. I'm 14 and I'm really into dinosaurs, creepy creatures, and Transformers. It's a handful, but I've also been diagnosed with Mild Intellectual Disorder along with autism, ADHD, dyspraxia, dyslexia, and dyscalculia. My mom, Tammy, has been my rock, raising me and my little brother on her own.

Lately, I've been struggling with a new behavior that's making things tough. I have this urge to run away whenever I'm out, even jumping out of moving cars, which is super dangerous. It's gotten to the point where it's hard for my family to take me anywhere.

We've realized I need more specialized care than what we can manage at home. Thankfully, we found Woodside Sanctuary in Auckland Park. They can give me the support I need, but it comes at a cost of R19,500.00 per month for lodging alone. We're hoping to secure a 12-month stay so I can work on managing my behavior and getting the help I need.

Any support to cover my fees at Woodside Sanctuary would mean the world to us.

Thank you!
