4 years ago Helderberg Hospice started a fund raiser called "Cycle for Life". The event is designed as a relay of teams of 3 people who have to "spin" on a stationary bike" for 12 hours. The idea is to raise money for Helderberg Hospice.
Last year I decided to do things a little crazy! I did 12 hours by myself on a stationary bike. WHY?? I thought people would feel my pain and sponsor/donate more. They did and I managed to raise R22 000.00 for Helderberg Hospice.
When I finished last year, I challenged 2 mates of mine, who were not super fit, in fact not fit at all, to do 12 hours this year, if I did 24 hours. They agreed! So on Friday 3 May 2013 at 18:00 I start cycling on a stationary bicycle for 24 hours finishing on Saturday 4 May at 18:00. My two mates will join me on Saturday morning and do 12 hours each solo. The three of us hope to raise R50 000.00 for Helderberg Hospice.
