Warm greetings, My name is Vumbhoni Kurisani Khoza. A young female who studies Law at the university of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg. I am 18 years of age and currently in my second year (LLB) at the above mentioned institution. As hard as it has been, I am thriving academically, not so much in the financial department. I am currently an NSFAS student who is facing the risk of financial exclusion, not from NSFAS but from the institution itself because of the half paid fees. NSFAS introduced a cap on accommodation and allowances last year (2023) which was my first year in varsity. Unfortunately the university's on campus residences cost thousands more than the amount capped by NSFAS. This has led me to bring in a great debt with the university. This platform could help me achieve my dreams, but these aren't just my dreams, they are also the dreams of a single grandmother who did everything she could to ensure a better future for this very same young female adult. It does not end there, this is undeniably the dream of my poverty striken community. It saddens me to admit it but I hope the truth is what will help me. Apart from being a student, I am a mental health and gender based violence activist in my community. I am also a published author who is featured in various books that are meant for charity organisations, two of those being “Unmasking The Truth” and “Tikhatsi tetfu”. This is to say, I am very determined and committed to what I put my mind to. I am goal driven and skillful. One thing that keeps me motivated is the dream that belongs to more than just myself. A dream to conquer for more than just myself. I believe in the spirit of Ubuntu and certainly that “it takes a village to raise a child” . Today this platform has become my village. I have hope in this village, that it will not only raise a child into believing dreams come true, but also give hope to other children who depend on this 'village'. I express my deepest gratitude in any will and any amount contributed towards this dream of a thousand people. The little will really go a long way. A way that could change lives, forever.
