Personal message

Life is not a race but some causes are worth going the distance for.

Welcome to our fundraising page. This is not an ordinary fundraising page created by a group or individual. This fundraising page is dedicated to a team of orphaned and vulnerable children that have decided to take the future into their own hands. The team consists of 9 kids from two of South Africa's townships, Orange Farm and Diepsloot, who have taken it upon themselves to help others in more dire circumstances than their own. These kids are role models who are using their sporting endeavours to act as examples to others. They are the real heroes of our South Africa that are paving the way and showing others that poverty can't hold them back in life.

The team will be joining thousands of enthusiastic cyclists on the streets of Johannesburg in the Momentum 94.7 Cycle Challenge with the intention of raising funds for the hundreds of children supported by MaAfrika Tikkun.

The team is hoping to put on a good show at the event and possibly even repeat the outstanding performance achieved by three of the team members earlier this year at the London Triathlon, where they came tenth overall against hundreds of competitors from around the world.

The main objective is not winning medals.  Rather, through their participation in the 94.7km race, they hope to inspire other cyclists and the public at large to support MaAfrika Tikkun financially.

For this young MaAfrika Tikkun cycle team, their participation in the Momentum 94.7 cycle challenge will be the culmination of months of hard training, and an illustration of their unwavering commitment to overcoming the hardships of their personal circumstances.

The MaAfrika Tikkun team will be racing on bikes donated by Momentum (with their entries sponsored by race organiser HSP). The team members are Musa Hadebe, Nonofo Pule, Thokozani Masikane, Mcedisi Skhosana, Lebo Shabalala, Musa Dlamini and the London Triathlon team of Tshiamo Phutagae (runner), Teboho Shibambo (swimmer) and Mduduzi Mshibe (cyclist).

MaAfrika Tikkun is a non-governmental non-profit organisation that works toward the transformation of South African communities by caring for and empowering vulnerable children to develop into well-adjusted, productive members of society.

Afrika Tikkun

Charity Default Logo

Afrika Tikkun (AT) was founded in 1994 with the goal of developing and uplifting young people in disadvantaged communities resident in the Republic of South Africa. With like-minded partners, Afrika Tikkun aims to end child poverty and youth unemployment through a holistic approach that begins in early childhood and ends with productive adults accessing the economy. Our approach provides all-inclusive care (nutrition, health and social) services and helps SA’s youth achieve success with a model called Cradle-to-Career 360°, which has earned Afrika Tikkun recognition for being one of the most impactful organisations in South Africa. We operate from four centres in Gauteng and one in Cape Town.
