I'm reaching out to share a story about my son, Theuns, who will be turning 1 on the 29th of January. Despite the milestone, he remains confined in a newborn body.

The journey began with his premature birth at 32 weeks, weighing only 1.5kg. The early days were spent in the NICU, hooked up to an oscillator, vent machine, oxygen, and a feeding tube. Five weeks later, we finally brought him home, but our joy was short-lived. Two weeks post-homecoming, he started crying in a way that defied explanation.

The subsequent months unfolded as a series of visits from doctor to doctor, specialist to specialist, and hospital to hospital. It took nine months of uncertainty and financial strain before we received a diagnosis: PVL and Cerebral Palsy spastic quadriplegia.

Our struggles didn't end with the diagnosis; in fact, they took a new turn. The expenses incurred in seeking answers left us facing additional challenges. Theuns now requires extensive therapy to aid in his development, but residing in Kroonstad means we must travel to access the best possible treatment.

Initially hesitant to ask for help, the mounting expenses have left us with no choice. We're now reaching out, hopeful that your generosity can make a significant difference in Theuns' life.

Apart from therapy, our recent challenges include the need for new glasses. With only a hospital plan in place, all additional costs fall squarely on our shoulders. We deeply appreciate any donation, regardless of size. The funds will be allocated towards therapy, travel, and accommodation expenses.
