Personal message
2020 will be the inaugural year for The Little Optimist Trust Global Challenge where we will be challenging Optimist sailors (and others) in RSA and the world to sail an Optimist Dinghy for charity. Optimist Sailing is one of the biggest sailing classes in the world - we invite this network of over 150 000 registered Optimist boats in 120 countries around the world to enter the race.
Many great sailors, CEOs, Skippers, Sportspeople, moms, dads & kids around the world, first learned to sail in an Optimist Dinghy – they all still hold a special place in their hearts for these amazing little boats.
You can race as an individual, corporate, school, charity or team.
Challenge your friends, family or competitors to race a boat for charity too.
Sail your dinghy for 1 Hour/ 5km/ 10km or more, on a day you choose over a 10-day holding period, allowing for optimal weather and personal schedules. You can even just sit in one and get your friends to support you!
The Little Optimist Global Challenge is all about FUN and OPTIMISM! It will also be the major fundraiser for our charity, The Little Optimist Trust, which has seen a significant drop in income due to the COVID 19 pandemic.
Each boat participating in The Little Optimist Global Challenge will aim to complete 5kms (or more) and aim to raise an average of ZAR3000, $300, Euro 300. The money raised will support our Covid-19 relief projects and our sailing therapy programme.
COVID-19 :
Due to Covid-19, we will ensure all sailors follow all PPE and local and international regulations and guidelines. There will be no mass gatherings needed and no large number of racers sailing or gathering at one time.
Start your fundraising campaign now and become a Champion for The Little Optimist Global Challenge!
