Personal message

I've run far and wide - up mountains, across deserts, over glaciers, through marshes, along ridgelines, down cliffs, on ice and through rivers - in all climates and tough conditions. But this time, I'll be putting my everything to the test. On 11 Sept, I'll be taking on the Tor des Géants, reputedly the toughest endurance trail event on the planet - it's a 205 mile (330km) non-stop race in the Italian Alps, with +24 000m of vertical gain. To complete the race, I must finish in less than 150 hours.
There'll be 823 runners starting, and I'm told only 60% of those are likely to finish.

I'm both terrified and excited by the challenge. Like the other endeavours I've done to raise funds for a worthy cause, I want this one to count for so much more than just a personal goal. Using this race, I'm raising funds for the Breatheasy Programme at the Red Cross War Memorial Children's Hospital in Cape Town, an initiative that helps young kids who've undergone a tracheostomy and are on artificial ventilation, be able to be taken care of at home. 

I'll be gasping in the thin air of the alps, but that's of my choosing. The kids with respiratory complications battle to breath at all. Help me to run for those who cannot breath on their own, and to help them live as normal a life as they can, through the Breatheasy programme.
