Personal message

Thabo Mokebe has decided to take on the challenge to cycle the Discovery 947 Ride Joburg to raise funds and awareness for Rainbows and Smiles - a childhood cancer foundation close to his heart.

A message from Thabo: “I will be taking on the challenge to cycle this race in memory of my vibrant, confident and positive spirited daughter.  It is our mission to raise awareness for childhood cancer and I will be taking hands with Rainbows and Smiles to help other children fight this awful disease”

Reagile Lethabo Mokebe was born on the 5th of June 2009 and sadly passed away on the 3rd of October 2019; after a courageous battle with Non-Hogkin’s Lymphoma Cancer.  She fought the disease with the support of her parents, brother, family, friends, doctors, nurses and teachers.  It was not an easy battle, but a challenge that she embraced to inspire other cancer patients. 

As her dad I am confident that she served her purpose in her short life and lived with such pride.  Please continue to assist us as we take on the challenge to support others during their battle.

Every year in South Africa, almost 1000 children are diagnosed with cancer.  Our socio-economic challenges, and generally poor level of awareness of early warning signs of childhood cancer, means that a large number of these children are diagnosed very late into their illness.  As a result, they face a difficult battle.

Team Rainbows Riders is on a mission to raise awareness and funds for children fighting cancer.

Your champion’s chosen charity is a community-based, charitable foundation dedicated to providing emotional, social and financial support to children diagnosed with cancer or a life-threatening illness, and their families and caregivers.

Rainbows and Smiles is not funded by government, and we rely on the generosity of our supporters and the passion of our volunteers to enable us to do the work we do.
