2022 is abound for great adventures, new challenges, and bravery like no other!
 
Team Rainbows and Smiles have decided to back our non-sporty Nadz in her quest to swim across the Midmar dam for the first time!! The dam is exceptionally full this year, and Nadia is NO FAN of dark, murky waters. A fear she must overcome on Saturday, 12 February 2022.
 
Our slogan for this swim is the Hawaiian word OHANA. Translated, it means: Family, no one gets left behind.
 
As many of you already know, our team's Midmar Mile is swum annually in memory of Hanno "Braveheart" Lewis. Hanno is the son of our team member, Nadia Lewis. In 2013 Hanno was diagnosed with a rare form of childhood cancer called Alveolar Rhabdomyosarcoma. 

Sadly, he died in 2014 after an unfair fight with cancer. Nadz has since then, together with her friends and team members, made it her mission to ease the journey of children diagnosed with cancer.
 
The team members supporting Nadz in this endeavour will each represent a letter in HANNO's name.
 
NADIA – as mommy to Hanno will be representing the letter 'H.'
ZELDA – one of Nadz's best friends and aunt to Hanno, will be representing the letter 'A.'
Bonni – founder member of Rainbows and Smiles and best Bru to Nadz, will be representing 'N.'
Denise – who made Hanno's dream come true when she was still with another foundation back in 2014, will be representing the second 'N.'
Catherine – also a greeny like Nadz and who has so much passion for the work she does with Rainbows, will be representing the 'O'.
 
This is our team! Rainbows are our passion. Please donate towards our swim, mainly to motivate Nadia and Catherine to get through the dam. Please help us to continue the work we do.

The mission of Rainbows and Smiles is to provide emotional, social and financial support to families and caregivers in need when a child or children of that family is diagnosed with a life threatening illness such as cancer. In addition, Rainbows and Smiles encourage childhood cancer awareness to educate in the hope of promoting early detection.
