#StepUp4STEPS – celebrate STEPS and Mandela’s birthday by giving more children a story of hope!

 STEPS all started with a story of a mother and her son born with clubfoot, searching for a better treatment and deciding to share what she found with others in the same situation. In July 2015 it is 10 years since Karen Moss founded STEPS. Since then, STEPS has trained 233 medical staff, supported 20 clinics in three countries, and ensured that over 8,200 children have received proper treatment. That’s worth celebrating!

 STEPS shares its birthday month with Nelson Mandela, which is a true honour. This seems particularly fitting as Madiba was passionate about children's rights, and famously said: "There can be no keener revelation of a society's soul than the way in which it treats its children."

 STEPS will in the month of July run the campaign #StepUp4STEPS. We will encourage children and adults to tell and share ‘My clubfoot story’ and for others to share those stories. We invite you to help us raise awareness that clubfoot is treatable, and give more children a story of hope.

This is how you do it:

1) Share a picture, a video, or a drawing, telling either your own story or the story of your child on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram (@clubfootsteps_sa) or mail. For instance a ‘before’ and ‘after’ picture, or tell us “what did you do with your feet today”.

 If you need some inspiration, feel free to use these questions: What kind of treatment have you/your child had? What’s your/your child’s life like now? What would you say to parents starting their journey today?

2) Encourage friends to share the story with #StepUp4STEPS and #myclubfootstory on social media and donate at BackaBuddy.

At the end of the campaign a selection of stories will be exhibited at clubfoot clinics.

 Our goal is to collect 67 stories by the end of July. It costs R 2500 to support the treatment of one child from birth to 4 years old. Help us to raise R 25 000 so that 10 children can have their own clubfoot story to tell.
