Stefan, or Steevo as he is fondly known to family and friends, was in a horrific head-on coalition on the N1 near Kroonstad on the morning of 13 December 2023. Stefan sustained serious head injuries and multiple fractures. He has a small bleeding in the brain and is in an induced coma in the Netcare Hospital Alberton. He is on ventilatory support and fighting for his life.

The damage to his beautiful face is severe and is described as a "floating face." It is a Le Fort Type III skull fracture where the bone that forms the face broke away from the rest of his skull. He will need reconstructive surgery.

His left hip was dislocated and fractured, while the right hip was also fractured. His femur and right wrist were broken and his right foot was basically crushed to pieces. The C4 vertibra of his neck has a hairline fracture.

The orthopedic surgeon started the first of multiple surgeries on 14 December. Many more to follow. The road to recovery and the rehabilitation will be long and costly.

Stefan will need all the support he can get to help with the extra medical and other expenses.

Every donation will help with Stefan's recovery and rehabilitation. He is only 23 and has his whole life ahead of him. We do not know what a realistic fundraising target might be at this stage - it is still early days.

UPDATE 28/01/2024

Stefan and I wish to express our sincere thanks to each and every one for your contributions, love, support and prayers. Stefan's road to recovery is still a very long one. We've reached the quarter mile mark. He was mobilised Saturday, 27/01/24 from the bed to a chair, for the first time after 46 days. He must now receive intensive physiotherapy to strengthen his muscles to enable him to learn to walk again. He still has to undergo a few facial operations in the future, which includes the reconstruction of his nose. All the abovementioned will have to happen and continued to be done by the Surgical Team at Netcare Alberton Hospital.

Your kindness continues to touch our hearts and strengthen our spirits. You have shown us that amazing things can happen when people come together. By Gods Grace, small miracles have happened on Stefan's road to recovery. We praise and worship His Name daily for His mercies.
