I am Tonia Sangoni, the mother of a young leukemia fighter named Sapho. Sapho, a 6-year-old boy and a sports fanatic from East London, has two siblings – a little brother and an older sister. Last year in May (2023), Sapho was diagnosed with Cancer- Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL). The initial signs appeared when he started feeling tired and sleepy during school hours while in grade R. It was during a random weekend at home that he began experiencing joint pains and suddenly became immobile, prompting us to seek medical attention.

Upon diagnosis, Sapho commenced his chemotherapy immediately. Two weeks into his 6-month treatment in the hospital, he achieved remission despite grappling with various side effects, including diabetes. Excited to resume normalcy, Sapho looked forward to going back to school. Unfortunately, one month into the maintenance treatment, he relapsed, dashing his hopes of returning to school, participating in sports, and embracing his youthful energy. The cancer had proven to be more resilient than initially thought. Sapho has now embarked on another round of chemotherapy.

However, the medical team has recommended a Bone Marrow Transplant as a potential second chance at life for Sapho. We hope that one of his siblings can be a matching donor. This is where we urgently seek your financial assistance. Once we receive the results indicating a matching donor, Sapho will need to undergo the transplant procedure in Johannesburg, South Africa.

The projected cost for Sapho's treatment plan is estimated to be around R600,000 or more. Your support will play a crucial role in ensuring that Sapho can commence his treatment promptly and increase his chances of overcoming this challenging journey.
