Dr Sandy takes on the Freedom Challenge in Support of Education in SA!

Dr. Sandy Inglis is a #Pietermaritzburglocal, cycle enthusiast.  He has a background in the medical field and has specialised in Emergency Medicine in #Australia and #NewZealand and has since worked in many countries around the world.

He will soon participate in the Freedom Challenge, a non-stop mountain bike ride from Pietermaritzburg to #Diemersfontein, near #Paarl in hopes to raise funds towards Gift of the Givers Educational Interventions. 2150km, 33000m of vertical ascent and a cut off of 26 days. Unassisted, self-reliant, non-stop, map and compass, sleep if you like ride! The route traverses six terrestrial biomes and the geography ranges from coastal to mountainous to semi-desert.

Sandy is no newcomer to long bike rides, having completed the #BikeTransAlps in Europe, #TourAotearoa (the length of New Zealand) and the #Joberg2C in SA. He is also been a member of our core medical team for the past few years and has thus decided to make this incredible ride across South Africa count.

He told our team what impresses him most about #GiftOfTheGivers is that, beyond all the international assistance the organisation offers, is the incredible humanitarian difference we make on home soil here in South Africa. He hopes that each kilometre he rides (or metre he climbs) will make a difference in someone’s life and that the funds he raises in the Freedom Challenge will enhance the education of South Africans, he believes, this is the most sustainable form of support or aid, one can give.

On 23rd June, in the frosty predawn darkness, Dr Sandy will set off on his adventure of a lifetime. He is just one of 60 tough cyclists entered in the Freedom Challenge who will be doing the same.
