Personal message
Hi Everyone,
I apologize for deleting my previous message, but I'd like to nominate someone else who is in need much more than I am.
Allow me to share a bit of the background story of this resilient couple and their friend. Salmaan Adams, a 33-year-old, has faced numerous challenges, making some regrettable choices that led to a tumultuous life, involving drugs and periods of homelessness. He endured injuries, including head trauma from robberies, and unfortunately, his wife left him, taking their 2-year-old son. Finding himself at a shelter in Bellville, Salmaan crossed paths with Bridget, aged 44, his current partner and a recovering drug addict. Bridget, who also faced her share of struggles, found a steadfast friend in Alex, an elderly woman dealing with a mental condition, whom she met at the same shelter.
Both Bridget and Alex, having experienced trauma and struggled with drug use, supported each other in their journey to stability. Today, just over two years later, they are all drug-free, bravely facing new challenges as they strive to survive.
Salmaan now works for a company, earning a modest income by sweeping the streets, while Alex receives a social grant. Bridget is in the process of sorting out her grant due to her own mental condition. With their combined income, they rent a home in New Begging in Blue Downs, facing monthly expenses, including rent, electricity, and other necessities.
Salmaan earns just under R2000, and Alex, dealing with debts from a loan she took to cover upfront rent costs, pays them off from her grant. They struggle to afford basic necessities, often resorting to credit from locals who charge high interest rates, perpetuating a cycle of financial strain.
Despite their hardships, Salmaan's newfound Christian faith is his daily pillar of strength. He diligently works odd jobs to contribute to their home life financially. This Christmas marks their first as a family out of the shelter, all three being drug-free. I believe it would be heartwarming if they could have something decent to eat, wear, and enjoy for this Christmas.
As Salmaan's sister, I help where I can, but being unemployed limits my ability to provide much. This plea is a prayer for them not to lose hope and to remember that there are still good people in life who see beyond past mistakes and believe in second chances.
I sincerely hope they can be considered for any assistance that can help them embrace this time and keep their faith alive, knowing that it will get better if they just keep going. My brother, Salmaan, is a very positive spiritual person, content with simple meals, but as Christmas approaches, I would love to see him and his family empowered by a show of kindness. We have no parents or family to rely on besides each other.
Thank you for considering their story and extending any help during this festive season.
