Personal message
South Africa, we need your help. While COVID-19 seems to be the word on everyone’s lips the last few months, Leukaemia continues to tear families apart.
Right now, there is a 35-year-old female and a 6-year old boy awaiting their life-saving stem cell transplants who cannot afford it, and they're praying for a miracle.
As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, we’re not able to have physical fundraising events. The funds we raise through these events greatly contribute to the work we do through the Patient Assistance Programme, where we provide financial assistance for patients who cannot afford the cost of finding a suitable donor.
With the chance of finding a donor match being approximately one in 100 000 the South African Bone Marrow Registry (SABMR) performs donor searches for patients who do not have a match in their own families and whose only chance of survival is a bone marrow transplant. Only 30% of people are lucky to find a match within their own families, with 70% having to look elsewhere - as you can imagine this process is quite costly.
The South African Bone Marrow Registry (SABMR) is a non-profit organisation and relies heavily on donations from the public and corporates to continue the work we do. We understand that economically times are tough for many at the moment, but we cannot cease in our efforts to help our patients who are in need.
Our mission is to save lives and provide hope for all patients in need of bone marrow stem cell transplantations and future therapies. Help us to give them a second chance at life!

The South African Bone Marrow Registry

The South African Bone Marrow Registry (SABMR) exists to help find matching bone marrow donors for critically ill South African children and adults who need a transplant but do not have a match within their own family. The only one of its kind in South Africa, the SABMR is committed to helping every patient referred to it. If there is no matching donor in South Africa, we take our search worldwide - “We search the world to find your perfect match”.
