Hi, my name is Liezl van Rooyen (neè Colditz)

This coming Sunday, 13th April, I have the privilege to run one of the greatest marathons in the world for the 3rd time in a row! But Sunday's 2014 London Marathon is personally also a special one:

A very close South African friend of mine was recently, at the age of 34, diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. She is a very keen runner with Paris, London, New York, Stockholm & Berlin marathons as well as the Two Oceans under her belt (to name but a few). However, due to the MS, it is not advisable for her to run long distances most probably ever again (her biggest passion) and it made me realise how fortunate we are to be healthy and to be able to do simple things which we take for granted, even something 'everyday' like running. My 2014 London Marathon is dedicated to her.

She told me about the good work that the Rare Diseases Society of South Africa (RDSSA) is doing. Since the London Marathon is the largest fundraising event in the world, I therefore want to use this opportunity to raise money for the great work of the RDSSA. The RDSSA is a registered NPO that supports patients & creates awareness about various life threatening rare diseases - See more at: www.rarediseases.co.za/about-us/.

Please donate through their main sporting arm (Pedalling for Pompe) of which all donations are used to support persons with rare diseases.

What began as a simple challenge amongst friends and family to raise awareness of Pompe Disease using the Momentum 94.7 Cycle Challenge as a platform, has evolved into charity initiative which seeks to help as many children and adults with rare conditions. Pedalling 4 Pompe is the main fundraising event for the Rare Disease Society of South Africa.
