Run for a Reason – September is GOLD:

Many children in South Africa die each year because of delayed referral to oncology treatment centres. To help create awareness and raise funds to support children with cancer and their parents, the NGO "Rainbows and Smiles" hosts a yearly novel event called "Run for a Reason."

The idea is that you commit to running 5km or 10km every day in September. Each day, the participants will receive a child's name and a story about their cancer journey to motivate them for the day.  

There are no prizes, medals or badges, just the satisfaction of knowing that you have made a difference in a child's life, acknowledged the fight they are fighting and that you care.

It is also a personal motivator for the non-athlete to get moving and is an amazing way to get motivated and fit after winter.

Each day the individuals will run (bike, swim, hop or crawl) with admiration for these incredible children with their names written on our hands and their bravery edged into our hearts.

The “athletes” will post a picture of the survivor onto social media so follow these inspirational humans as they acknowledge the cancer survivors.

The government does not fund rainbows and Smiles; they rely on its supporters' generosity and the volunteers' passion for enabling them to do the incredible and heart-warming work of supporting children with cancer.
