Personal message

My name is Heinrich Pool.  A close friend of mine, Damian Wasowicz, suffered a traumatic brain injury in an horrific cycling accident.  His recovery and the story he tells is glorious, and he's now written a book about it!  That's him in the photograph now.

Damian started an initiative to raise awareness and funds for Headway Gauteng by riding the 947 Ride Joburg cycle race every year (see the other link below).  This year I'm helping out by running the Cape Town Marathon in October and riding the 947 Ride Joburg in November.  

Updates:

I had a smashing Cape Town Marathon and finished in 4:11:51 - well ahead of what I was expecting to do.

The 947 Ride Joburg event was wonderfully organised and I thoroughly enjoyed the team spirit of the Headway Heroes.  I finished in 3:46:27 and I'm super chuffed with the result for my first road cycling event.

The fundraising target is arbitrary, give what you can.

Headway Gauteng (The Brain Injury Association)

Headway Gauteng is a registered charity organisation dedicated to offering various support programmes to survivors of traumatic brain injury (TBI) and their families.

The vast majority of our injured members have sustained a traumatic brain injury as a result of a motor vehicle accident, sporting accident or assault. We also assist survivors of acquired brian injuries such as stroke or tumour. These people have led a full life up until the brain injury, which has caused permanent changes to physical, cognitive, emotional and behavioural processes.
