Personal message

Hello,

My name is Rudi van Deventer and i am 35 years of age and i am from Bethlehem.

About 8 months back i was diagnosed with a staghorn kidney stone 1.8cm x 2cm in my right kidney that has been causing me severe pain and due to the fact that i unfortunately do not have medical aid i had no other choice as to attempt to make use of our local stat hospital.

I attended there 3 times in 3 months and was finally referred to Universitas Hospital in Bloemfontein. On 2 October 2023, i went to Universitas and was advised to return on 27 November 2023 to be admitted, upon arrival i was yet again advised that they could not assist me as all the theaters are fully booked until 2024 and that the procedure a (PCNL) Precutaneous Nephrolithotomy that i need to get can only be done by a hand full of doctors in South Africa and i was rescheduled for 29 April 2024 baring in mind that i had spent almost all my savings money on fuel to get to Bloemfontein and back on both trips that i had to do as there was no alternate transport for me to use.

On the evening on 30 November 2023 i again had severe pain to the point where a 35 year old man sat crying on the bed begging God to please take away my pain as the medication that i have does not work any more. i decided that enough is enough and my wife rushed me to Universitas hospital the following day where i was admitted to the hospital and given pain meds to stabilize me.

I was later the day moved to a general ward where i waited the remainder of the day for the doctor to schedule a second CT scan and eventually at around 19:00 i was taken for the CT scan. My doctor called me about an hour later advising that there is yet again nothing that they can do for me and that i should rest and he will then speak to me the next day.

I was the next day advised that i will be discharged and that i should still return on 29 April 2024 but they could still not confirm if my procedure could be done by then and i might again be re-booked for a later date.

I am trying to raise funds to have my procedure done at a PVT hospital by Dr. Wickus Fourie a Urologist at Rosepark Hospital in Bloemfonten and have obtained 3 baseline quotations 1. The Doctor R18 800 / 2. The Anesthetist R13 000 / 3. The Theatre R66 000 . I was advised that there might be extra costs eg. should any thing go wrong and i need to go to ICU or if the doctor can not remove the entire stone at once ect.

My quality of life has deteriorated very much in the last 8 month, it has also been affecting my ability to perform 100% at work due to the constant pain that i have and i would highly appreciate any help please as i would need to raise almost R100 000.

I know it is a lot to ask for but i am hopeful and i pray that there will be someone out there willing to help me.

Kind regards
Rudi van Deventer.
