Personal message

My name is Jaco Pieterse, and I am from Kimberley. My wife, Rozel Pieterse, Age 42, with our three beautiful boys that support her in everything. I can't put in words what they do for her and she for us. I describe her as a person who loves adventure, getting into new, challenging situations, and thriving.

So, this is our story and why we need your help. Her left heart valve is leaking, her right heart chamber muscle is too thick, and she needs to do a Septal Mastectomy procedure.

In this surgical procedure, the surgeon removes a small amount of the thickened septal wall of the heart to widen the outflow tract (the path the blood takes) from the left ventricle to the aorta. They will also implant a loop recorder that will be placed near her heart.

She also has Lupus, a disease that occurs when your body's immune system attacks your tissues and organs (autoimmune disease). Inflammation caused by Lupus can affect many different body systems — including your joints, skin, kidneys, blood cells, brain, heart, and lungs.

Her medical aid is already exhausted.

UPDATE: We got the new test results back from the Nuclear Med VQ Scan.

A ventilation–perfusion (VQ) scan is a nuclear medicine scan that uses radioactive material (radiopharmaceutical) to examine airflow (ventilation) and blood flow (perfusion) in the lungs. The aim of the scan is to look for evidence of any blood clot in the lungs, called pulmonary embolism (PE).

Pulmonary Embolism in both lower lobes. She must take a very dangerous drug called Warfarin.

Her medication out of pocket is R12139,63 per month this does not include Pathcare that we still own R5194,90 Her cardiologist R1060,60 and R1296.90 at the specialist.

My son Jayden has Non-verbal Autism and a list that is too long, and I don't even know where to start. She always puts herself last, even with her health issues; she makes sure everybody is looked after first, and then maybe she will rest for a few hours. Our son Jayden and his two older brothers and Me will be lost without her. This is the first time in my whole life that I am asking people for help because I know that she would never. And I hope just one person will read this and will be able to assist.

My wife needs the funds for medical costs and for repairing her heart, and I am asking for your help. I know everybody is struggling with everything going on: Covid, Floods and Fires. People have their problems also. But my time is running out.

Her medical bills went up and is now at R106 907,63, and this is not even for the operation on her heart, or the loop recorder device that they implanted next to her heart on the 28th of April 2022. W

The payment on her medication went up and it is R12 139,63 per month, so, she will make sure first Jayden and all his stuff are covered and that we are all fine.  She always makes sure that our household bills are paid, so sometimes, she skips a few months without her medication. But now she can’t do that anymore.

I lost my job during covid but was lucky to get one fast again, but it is a significant pay cut. I wish I had more space to tell you more about them both.

SA Guide Dog did a story on Jayden because he was the first child to receive an Autism Support Dog in the Northern Cape, and only because my wife never gave up for 3 years.

If I can raise enough funds for her, my wife will stress less, and I will know that she will go for the open-heart surgery, and we will have her for a few more years, and I will be able to take her to Bloemfontein or Cape Town because they don't do the operation in Kimberley. I wish I had more space to tell you how magical they both are and all she does for her family and the community. I'm not a writer, I'm just a man who does not want to lose his wife, and our children can have their mom for a few more years.

She also decided that the money that is left over will be donated to S.A Guide Dog that more children like Jayden can have a little more freedom.
