Hello Everyone!
In 2012 I (Nicholas Hops) Rode the Absa Cape Epic with my dad in a bid to raise money for the Red Cross Children's Hospital down in Cape Town. The Red Cross will always be a special place for me as it was where I received my many months of chemotherapy when I was undergoing treatment for an osteosarcoma. This particular cancer resulted in a bone tumor just below my right knee in the tibia.
After a total of 6 surgeries and approximately 2 years worth on crutchers I am finally free and clear of my disease and live every day full of appreciation of what the amazing doctors at the Red Cross & Life Vincent Pallotti Hospital did for me! Life Health Care - who own & operate many hospitals throughout the country including the Vincent Pallotti - have come onboard as a sponsor for 2013 which has allowed Rich & I to go forward with this dream & for which we are eternally grateful!
Rich & I are both massive cycling fans & whether its watching the entire 5 hours of a Tour de France stage, being on a 6 hour ride & missing a whole TdF stage or riding together in the mountains of Tokai we are in no happier place than when bicycles are involved! After riding the 2012 Epic with my dad, I was set on coming back to it in a few years time but Rich asked me if I was keen to join him & clearly, I was! Partnering with Life Health Care & the Children's Hospital Trust we hope to raise more money than Dad & I did for the 2012 year (R51127) and would also like to do the Epic as fast as we possibly can!
The 2012 Epic was an amazing "father-son" bonding experience and we were able to raise a lot of money for a seriously worthy cause. Rich & I are looking forward to our journey together & hope to put as much money into the coffers of the Red Cross Children's Hospital as possible! Please do all you can to contribute to our cause, whether its donating money yourself or passing the message on to those who can!
