Meet some of Rays of Hope’s social workers:

Bertha, who heads the team, has been with Rays of Hope for 12 years. Over the years Bertha has seen many hopeless people come to Rays of Hope who have turned their lives around with the help, love and acceptance offered by the community. Bertha’s favorite part of job is seeing the glow of hope on people’s faces, after just one session of finding out what can be made possible for them by Rays of Hope.  

Meet Khensani has been a social worker at Rays of Hope for just over a year and is the breadwinner for a family of 10. She works on 40 caseloads a month and helps and sees between 15 to 20 a people a day at the Counseling Centre.

Say hello to Jacob, a social worker who focuses on gender-based violence and has been a social worker for seven years. COVID-19 took a huge toll on most people’s livelihoods and especially those in the Alexandra community. Jacob’s work at Rays of Hope saw him help assist many men and women who were depressed to find jobs again and see that there is still hope. 

And then there is Nthabiseng, who has been a social worker for three years and while she loves her job, she says that there is a dire need for social workers because so many people are struggling with different challenges, like mental health, teenage pregnancy, broken families due to unemployment, gender-based violence. She believes that every donation, no matter how big or small, would make a huge difference to the community and the social workers. 

Rays of Hope, a registered NPO (063-389-NPO) needs more dedicated and committed people like Bertha, Jacob, Khensani and Nthabiseng. You can help make this happen and have a positive impact on Alexandra!
