Rassie Riding for Rainbows and Smiles

I have entered the Momentum 94.7 Cycle Challenge, which takes place on Sunday 16 November 2014. The Cycle Challenge, is 98 km cycle race held in Gauteng.

I am doing this ride for 2 reasons. First is to ensure that I get a bit more healthy. Secondly I am tackling this race in honor of children with life threatening diseases, specifically children who are currently fighting, is still going to fight, who lost the fight and those who have survived cancer.

 Please sponsor R1.00 for every kilometer I cycle in the Momentum 94.7 Cycle Challenge on Sunday the 16th November 2014. All the donations go to the Rainbows and Smiles organisation so please click on the 'donate now' button for your R94.70 who helps a child diagnosed with cancer.

The mission of Rainbows and Smiles is to provide emotional, social and financial support to families and caregivers in need when a child or children of that family is diagnosed with a life threatening illness such as cancer. In addition, Rainbows and Smiles encourage childhood cancer awareness to educate in the hope of promoting early detection. Rainbows and Smiles mobilise across racial boundaries, amongst the physically challenged, beyond class, religion, cultural and gender and we are guided by democratic principles. Rainbows and Smiles principles include creating hope, smiles and relief for families and caregivers of children with cancer. Most people are not aware that when cancer attacks a child, it attacks a family. Once cancer has attacked, it is not long before many hard working families begin to lose everything because they have a choice to make: stay home to care for their child and family or leave to go to work. They make this decision with a heavy heart knowing that whatever choice will have an adverse effect on their family. The organisation was founderd by a mother of a child with brain cancer as a way of paying it forward!
