Once again, on Sunday 12th March, I plan to brave the climbs and whatever the weather throws at us that day, to complete the 108km Cape Town Cycle Tour. 

It will be my 4th consecutive Cape Argus, which I'm kinda proud of, since, before moving to Cape Town, I didn't even own a bike!  But I'm even more proud that I've raised money each year for this great charity, Afrika Tikkun, which helps some of South Africa's - the world's - most deprived families and children.  

I went to visit one of their centres recently, in one of the "townships" on the Cape Flats, where they explained to me their "Cradle to Career" methodology.  They build a relationship with a family starting with supporting a pregnant mother, going on to provide free, stimulating pre-school creche facililities, then after-school care, computer lab support and all the way to career and further education guidance, and work placements.  The longevity of the partnership is a really impactful way to produce social change in communities where most children are born into a life-situation where the odds of success are so highly stacked against them. 

Please help me help Afrika Tikkun to continue and expand their work.

Afrika Tikkun (AT) was founded in 1994 with the goal of developing and uplifting young people in disadvantaged communities resident in the Republic of South Africa. With like-minded partners, Afrika Tikkun aims to end child poverty and youth unemployment through a holistic approach that begins in early childhood and ends with productive adults accessing the economy. Our approach provides all-inclusive care (nutrition, health and social) services and helps SA’s youth achieve success with a model called Cradle-to-Career 360°, which has earned Afrika Tikkun recognition for being one of the most impactful organisations in South Africa. We operate from four centres in Gauteng and one in Cape Town.
