Personal message

Riding in the Cape Town Cycle Tour to create awareness and raise funds for children with Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder means the world to me. This cause is extremely close to my heart, as I've always wanted to support vulnerable children, and now is my opportunity.

I am riding for one of Home of Hope's Child and Youth Care Centres this year. Many of the children in the CYCC have undergone multiple failed placements before coming to Home of Hope. Their child and youth care centre provides a comprehensive service that empowers each child to realize their full potential, no matter where they come from or what they have gone through before.

Their mission is to provide a long-term placement that balances between a family unit and a structured environment that allows for supervision and control.

They provide full-time care to 25 children, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. I have chosen to fundraise for this project because I can only imagine how difficult it must be to care for so many children when so little funding is received from the government.

The funds raised will contribute towards the children's daily needs.

Home of Hope

Charity Default Logo

Home of Hope was started in 2005, and we are an NPO that cares for abandoned and abused children and children with Foetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD – permanent brain damage caused by pre-natal exposure to alcohol). We are a registered place of safety and we have 19 children in our long term community based foster care.

The organisation also caters for the special educational needs of children suffering from FAS (Foetal Alcohol Syndrome) and neurological challenges, in our Amathemba Learning Centre. There are currently 37 children at our Amathemba Learning Centre.
