In December I will again have the privilege of taking part in Ultra-Trail Cape Town (“UTCT”), a trail race of between 35km and 100km (depending on which event one chooses) that traverses Table Mountain and takes you through some of the most beautiful sections of trail the Western Cape has to offer. This year is a special one for me as I have decided to partner up with the organisers to try and raise funds for the UTCT Trail Fund.

The Trail Fund is a legacy project that aims to raise money for two very worthy causes, namely:

1. Table Mountain National Park's Honorary Rangers for their various programs and

2. The development of runners from underprivileged communities.

I am very much aware of the high barrier to entry that trail running presents when compared to road running (e.g. cost of shoes, hydration packs, race entry fees, nutrition etc.) and am 100% convinced that this is causing a lot of local talent to remain undiscovered.

By donating to UTCT’s trail fund you will be contributing directly to helping some of these runners that would otherwise not be able to afford it to participate in UTCT as the organisers use the funds in part to pay for up to 30 runners each year in the form of entries, transport and accommodation. With UTCT now forming part of the Ultra-Trail World Tour, participation and the accompanying exposure might very well be exactly the springboard needed to set somebody up as the “next big thing”.

Please help me helping these guys as every little bit makes a difference. I will try to raise R20,000 and will need a lot of help in doing so but please keep in mind that there is no amount that is too small and every cent will count towards helping someone somewhere along the line.
