Personal message
This year I will be participating in the Three Peaks Challenge, a mountain running trail of some 50km which involves ascending the three major peaks above Cape Town, namely Devils Peak, Table Mountain and Lions Head.
I have decided to dedicate my race to raising awareness and funds for an amazing NGO called Mamelani Projects. Mamelani is a registered NPO that runs a Youth Development Programme that works specifically with young people who have grown up in a Children’s Home. When they turn 18, they are forced to move on from the system. Many of these young people are not ready for this transition and without adequate support, after years of stability, they struggle to cope with this new reality. Aside from needing emotional support, many of these young people need to be supported to stay in school, attend skills training programmes and find meaningful work. Mamelani's programme helps them to remain focused, motivated and move forward in their lives. Please could you support me on my challenge to help youth reach new heights
Below is a message from Nkululeko, a 19year old from Gugulethu, about how Mamelani has assisted him.
“I really didn’t think about having to leave Homestead one day. I didn’t take it seriously until I realised that I had to leave. I realised that I needed help! I didn’t know where I was going to go and what I was going to do. Mamelani helped me. You see these guys at Mamelani are like brothers to me and I get to talk about things that one would expect from a family. Mamelani gives people hope and that is so important because people lose hope when they are not supported. It gives guys leaving the children’s home an opportunity of making something different of our lives and not have excuses.
