The Polish Association of Siberian Deportees in Southeast Africa (the Association) is urgently seeking donations to complete the 3D machining of the granite figurines (5 children and 2 adults) that form the focal point of the front of the Polish Refugee Memorial currently being built in the grounds of the CP Nel Museum in Oudtshoorn, South Africa.
The foundations and concrete structure for this memorial have been funded by donations from the members of the Association and are completed. The granite cladding and granite 3D figurines of the monument will be co-funded by a Polish funding organisation, with whom the Association is still negotiating.
The company that is to machine the 3D figurines of the children and adult caregivers has informed the Association that at the end of March 2024, they will be shutting down the 3D machining side of their business due to a lack of interest in this type of granite cutting.
This company has the only machine on the African continent capable of machining 3D in granite/stone. Thus, the Association has an extreme urgency to complete the 3D machining of our memorial immediately and must do so before our intended co-funding partner can do so.
The Association has dipped into its reserves and paid the deposit of ZAR83,000.00 to get the granite figurines machined before the deadline of the end of March 2024 – but we need to urgently raise ZAR85,300.00 (eighty-five thousand and three hundred Rand) to pay the balance by the end of March.
Reaching our target means we can pay for the 3D granite machining of images of Polish children and adult caregivers before the granite carving company's closing date. This will take us one step closer to completing our memorial in Oudtshoorn.
The total cost of 3D granite stone machining is R168300.00 - we have paid a deposit of R83000.00, leaving us with an outstanding amount of R85300.00 to pay. Funds donated will be used for this.
