WALKING FOR LIFE Myog TO Myog CHALLENGE:

After walking nearly 1000 kilometers for the next child patient in need, social media producer and part-time philanthropist Darren Combrink is back. This time, he is "Walking for Life" for Robbie —a boy who is sadly living on the verge. Described as a brave, intelligent, funny, kind and incredibly loving human being, Robbie’s bone marrow is 90% leukemic. And he doesn’t have a matching donor. Without a bone marrow match, he is running out of time. Fast.

Together, we can make Robbie's dream a reality: “I want there to be more donors. We are all each other’s tomorrow. Anyone can donate and should donate. If not for me, then do it for someone else.  Because when all is taken into consideration, I am because we are. What’s harder than leukemia? Seeing your loved ones experiencing it from the outside. And not being able to save you.” - Robbie Eddles

HARD FACTS:

At the end of 2018, the SABMR had only 73 000 people on its registry, and we are a population of 57 million. Since February 2019, Robbie’s message that there should be more donors has gone viral, and in less than a month we have received more than 7000 new donor applications!
We now more than ever need to raise funds for ongoing donor recruitment, processing and finding a match. Because Robbie’s dream is becoming reality, and this is a challenge standing in our way.

OUR PLAN:

Together with the support of several corporate sponsors, premium frozen yogurt maker Myog has challenged 40-something media man and endurance walker, Darren Combrink, to do as many laps as humanly possible — between Kloof Street Cape Town and Camps Bay on the 30th March. Each lap is a grueling 5,4 kilometers, featuring Kloof Nek Road’s famous 10.92 gradient mountain pass. The 24th steepest in South Africa.

“The goal in my heart is set at 6 laps. 32,4 kilometers in one day. My biggest worry is my left knee. But I cannot stand still. Robbie is sick now. The SABMR and Myog have come forward with this challenge. #RobbiesWarriors has been created, and I’m taking it on as a beacon of hope. Through the awareness of this event, I am challenging the public. I want us all to be #RobbiesWarriors. I am challenging you to sign up and donate whatever little funds you can. Each time you do, tell the world to join us.” - Darren Combrink

"Myog has also made a once off special SABMR sweet box. 100% of all sales will go towards this beautiful cause. In addition, I have vowed to give 5% of turnover on the day. And a 25% discount on all Myog menu items to any corporate teams who pledge to join Darren.” - Jean LeBlanc

The South African Bone Marrow Registry

Charity Default Logo

The South African Bone Marrow Registry (SABMR) exists to help find matching bone marrow donors for critically ill South African children and adults who need a transplant but do not have a match within their own family. The only one of its kind in South Africa, the SABMR is committed to helping every patient referred to it. If there is no matching donor in South Africa, we take our search worldwide - “We search the world to find your perfect match”.
