Personal message

I'm here typing a message to a stranger, hoping that your kindheartedness would appeal to my friend's story. She's had a really rough go of it recently. Yesterday, 29 November 2023, she was trying to sell her bike to raise some funds for her start-up business and passion project, she went to Cape Town around 13:00 to meet this potential buyer, and ended up in a superette parking lot facing a nightmare.

This potential buyer, dressed very neatly approached the car, and asked her to roll down her window. He reached in grabbed her key and unlocked the car. The minute he had the key, five other men ambushed the car and things got pretty scary. They ripped her garmin watch off of her arm, sun glasses from her face, Samsung Note 10 cellphone, and the Mountain bike she was selling. Amids this already messed-up situation, the man threatened her life if she faught back. She's left with some bruises and a scratch on her arm from where they grabbed her watch.

Thankfully, some good Samaritans came running, and he threw her car keys back at her, so she could get out of there. She's physically okay, but the emotional trauma has set in quite hard.

The reason for the BackaBuddy campaign is that her family can't pitch in to help replace what was stolen. We want to get her back on her feet. Any amount you can spare would mean the world to us.

This isn't just about the stuff that was taken; it's about showing her that she's not alone. We want to help her heal and move forward from this. A family friend has offered free trauma counseling, which we are extremely grateful for.
