As the winner of the FIA Rally Star African continental final and after a successful 2023 training season in Europe, I'm contesting the Junior World Rally Championship (JWRC) in 2024.
My name is Max Smart, I'm 21 years old and I am proudly representing South Africa at the exhilarating world rallying level. Rally is an intensely time competitive sport that demands performance under pressure. It's energetic, uncompromising, exciting and action-packed. The last time SA had a driver competing at JWRC level was back in 2012. I’m passionate, committed and prepared to put in the hard work to have the privilege of waving the South African flag on the world rally stage.
In February I competed at Rally Sweden, and although this was my first event on ice and snow, I finished in the top ten, earning South Africa a world championship point.
Outside of my incredible sponsored season as a member of the FIA Rally star development team, I will be competing and training in a parallel season of events throughout 2024 to gain skills, experience and to build performance for the JWRC.
Where I need your help: The FIA has a requirement that I complete an asphalt rally before WRC Croatia on 18-21 April since I have little experience on this surface. I've identified West Cork Rally in Ireland on 15-17 March as great preparation for Croatia. I'm trying my best to raise £11,000 to enter this event.
