Personal message
Greetings to All,
My name is Matilda Kokera, a 19-year-old South African born female Amateur Wrestler originally from the Informal Section of Lotus River's Phumlani Village.
I've attended Lotus River Primary and High Schools, matriculating in 2022. My passion for the sport started when the Goodwood Wrestling Club opened the Lotus River Hub at the Recreational Centre in 2015, granting the community an opportunity to be part of an organized, structured and affiliated sporting code which actually is the oldest sport in the world with Olympic Game status. To this day members of the community especially of the boys and girls are actively involved. My goal which I'm telling you is not impossible with only one qualifying tournament away is to become the first South African female to represent our nation at the Olympic Games. Over the past years, I've poured immense effort and dedication into my craft, achieving significant milestones as a 9-time South African Champion and 9-time Western Province Champion
Having proudly represented South Africa at international events, including the African Championships in Johannesburg and City of Casablanca, Morocco. I am currently the top female wrestler in my weight category in our country also of the few achieving best results against the visiting USA Oregon teams. My qualification and role as a Coach has inspired many wrestlers especially our female girls, who acknowledge me as they role model.
Once again, I'm honoured for having been selected as part of South African teams partaking in the African Continental Championships and the African and Oceania Olympic Games Qualifier event in Egypt from March 14-19 and March 22-24, 2024, respectively.
To make this dream a reality, which will mean so much to so many, I hereby beg and plead for your financial support as my estimated costs is R57,000, covering airfare, accommodation, local transport, team clothing, competition license, and insurance. This financial barrier is one that many athletes face, and your generosity as sponsors can make a significant impact.
Behind every triumph lies countless hours of effort and dedication. Wrestling demands not only physical strength but also mental resilience and unwavering commitment. Your support will not only fuel my journey but will also recognize the sacrifices and passion invested in this pursuit and as a reality I envisage myself in the South African Team at the 2024 Paris Olympic games.
Your support, no matter the amount, will be sincerely appreciated.
