Thank you for visiting my fundraising page.

This year, I have decided to participate in the Pick 'n Pay Argus cycle tour (http://www.cycletour.co.za/) to raise funds for Afrika Tikkun (http://afrikatikkun.org/). The Argus, as it is commonly known, is a 110km cycle race round the Cape Peninsula which will be held this year on the 10th of March 2013. I will cycle with the EACH ONE TEACH ONE Team who aims to collect donations to send to school as many children (0-6 years) as possible by the end of the race. I would like to support at least two kids. It costs R2160 a year to send a child to one of Afrika Tikkun's Early Childhood Development Centres (ECD). 

The purpose of these centres is to provide underpriviliged children with skills that will empower them to achieve better results when they start formal schooling at the age of 7. These centres also give them a safe place where they escape violence and poverty for most of the day. The kids are thaught basic numeracy, literacy and social development through play and creative activities. 

Although I've participating in the Argus twice before and I'm used to cycling, I still find participating in this race a quite challenging event for the very high number of bikes on the road (about 35000!!!), for the wind which may blow incessantly and for my renown inability of cycling in pelatons.

Afrika Tikkun (AT) was founded in 1994 with the goal of developing and uplifting young people in disadvantaged communities resident in the Republic of South Africa. With like-minded partners, Afrika Tikkun aims to end child poverty and youth unemployment through a holistic approach that begins in early childhood and ends with productive adults accessing the economy. Our approach provides all-inclusive care (nutrition, health and social) services and helps SA’s youth achieve success with a model called Cradle-to-Career 360°, which has earned Afrika Tikkun recognition for being one of the most impactful organisations in South Africa. We operate from four centres in Gauteng and one in Cape Town.
