Personal message
At the start of this very cold and wintery July, we invite you to join us in sharing your 67 Mandela Day minutes of fundraising.
The Village Safe Haven has many basic running costs such as electricity, rates and taxes, petrol that gets the kids to and from school, winter school and home clothing, stationery for school and homework, extra lessons for our remedial children, food to sustain the family and school lunch box meals to name but a few expenses.
Covid-19 has cancelled all our fundraiser events for 2020. This has had a devastating effect on our home and our budget. We are stretched beyond capacity. And so we are appealing to you to please make a cash donation in lieu of your 67 Mandela Day minutes during the month of July. In the words of Nelson Mandela we ask you to please make a difference in the life of another.
“What counts in life is not the mere fact that we have lived. It is what difference we have made to the lives of others that will determine the significance of the life we lead.” Nelson Mandela
Reaching our target goes towards The Village paying the cash expense requirements for July 2020. This directly impacts the stress levels of both the house parents and the children living at this home. It directly affects the quality of life, food and warmth that keeps the home running.
We have had to cancel all staff who were employed to work at The Village to save funds. The children and house parents do all the house and garden chores including laundry, cooking, cleaning and mowing the lawn. Some hands are very little and this is a lot to ask of them.
Funds raised will be used as follows:
Electricity monthly cost R20000
Rates and Taxes R3250
Water R2000
Groceries R6000
Petrol R5000
School Fees & Clothing R6000
Household insurance R3000

The Village Safe Haven

The Village Safe Haven is a Group Foster Care Facility that also acts as a Place of Safety. We are referred to by law as an Alternative Child Care Centre and to date, we are in our 16th year of operation.
We believe that every child in need is worthy of quality care. We, therefore, do not show preference to any situation. However, we do not cater for children with serious physical disabilities as we do not have the facilities or staff for this. We have created three homes on the property to include a family structure and have totally moved away from the “institution style” in which children’s homes or “orphanages” were known for.
We offer an encompassed lifestyle of love and quality care to our children and we trust that in turn when our children leave our care as young adults, they leave as “young adults of excellence”.
Without financial and food donations of the greater community and company CSI budgets that support us, our home is simply not able to function. When we receive extras, such as clothes we cannot use, we share with those in need through other NPOs that we work very closely with. We thank you in advance for supporting The Village Safe Haven.
