Elbow Op for Madelyn Swartz

What I thought was going to be a quick lunch break out of the office on 27 November turned into a nightmarish event that turned my life upside down a bit.

Unfortunately, the enemy knows our fears and weaknesses, and two of my biggest fears became a reality...

1) Being hit by a car while crossing the road (which was something I did quite regularly since I work opposite Sandton City Mall).

2) Needing to be admitted to hospital before reinstating our hospital plan (which we cancelled early this year for financial reasons).

I was hit by a Discovery Ranger, and of all the things that could've gone wrong, I can only testify of God's protection, grace and love.

I am home with my family and, even though my head hit the tar quite hard, I have no head injuries.

I only have a broken elbow BUT it's called a "Terrible Triad Fracture" which is the most difficult elbow operation to perform with the biggest chance of long-term complications.

According to the specialist the break is unfortunately too bad to fix, so they will need to do a RADIAL HEAD REPLACEMENT on my elbow.

He said I will never recover fully, will lose at least 15% of elbow mobility and will need intensive physiotherapy after recovery.

Despite this, I do believe that God can heal me completely. He has already made a way and my operation is already scheduled at Flora Clinic for Wednesday, 13 December.

The quote for my surgery came up to R120 823.00.

The full amount needs to reflect in their bank account by Tuesday morning to ensure the operation goes ahead, as scheduled.

Unfortunately, we made the decision to sell my car today but we are thankful that we were in a position to do so.

We now have R110 000 and only need another R11 000 to cover the operation.

There might still be additional expenses after the surgery (depending on theatre time) and my physiotherapy will start after 4 weeks.
