My name is Ronette Philp and I would like to share my story with you about my incredibly talented 24 year old niece, Madelein Myburgh.
She is a very creative young lady who always had an eye for designing. She graduated from the University of Pretoria with a degree in Information Design. Soon after she was able to slot into a Marketing Company in Pretoria as an intern and then later as a Junior Designer. Her passion is to work as a graphic designer, videographer and video editor. She also loves Anime and Comics and for the last few years she designed and made her own costumes for Comic Con (JHB).
She has a heart of gold and she is very loyal to her friends and family. Always willing to put her own needs second and helping as much as she can to make their dreams come true and their lives happier.
Unfortunately, 6 months ago, her health started taking a turn, and unimaginable trauma started to unfold, month by month. Nose bleeds for 3 weeks, then suddenly kidney stones and enlarged kidneys. She started losing weight at a rapid speed and getting paler by the day. After more blood tests, sonars and scopes, they found she was bleeding internally, and the Dr's over her at that time concluded it was an Autoimmune Hepatitis that attacked her liver causing cirrhosis of her liver. She then started a very specific meal plan as well as a lot of medication to keep her stable until they could see the Liver Specialist in Johannesburg. After seeing the specialist they have heard she has to go for more blood tests and that he will only be able to make a full diagnosis after he receives the latest tests and study all her past scans and sonars from the past 6 months.
You can just imagine the amounting medical expenses that this young lady, only starting out in life, and her adoring parents have had to undertake. And the overwhelming part is, it's not over yet. She is yet to be fully diagnosed and hear what the way forward will be to save her liver, her life. And this is a young lady who does not consume any alcohol or even painkillers.
My plead to you all far and near is to help me help them to eleviate at least one of the many worries they have while they navigate through this traumatic time as a family.
If we all can donate whatever we are able to, I know it will make a huge difference to them, not just financially, but also knowing the 3 of them are not going through this alone.
Thank you for your support.
