At the Tender age of 3, both Nazeem's parents were shot and killed. His aunt immediately stepped in an applied for for custody and she eventually after several attempts became his legal gaurdian.

He quickly krept into the hearts of his new family and community with his friendly smile and bubbly personality. Sadly after 2 years, his aunt passed on and her husband became his legal foster parent. What made matters even worse for his new family was that his uncle was retrenched and he has since been struggling to find work.

After about 2 years, he was enrolled into Sunnyside Primary school. Two weeks later, he came rushing to his dad and told him to look at the blister that has developed in his mouth.

Initially they wee not too concerned as it was still relatively small and the only one. The very next day however, he came running to his dad again to check out that he has now developed even more blisters and spots that were redish in color.

His dad immediately decided to take him to Red Cross hospital as his gut feeling was that something was wrong. During this time he also experienced constant leg pains that hindered his sleep and caused him some discomfort and pain. After tests were performed, they were told that nothing seems to be wrong and that it was growing pains. After being at home for a few days, he started getting consistent nose bleeds. This was when his dad took him back to Red Cross and insisted that more thorough tests be performed.

This was when it was discovered that he he Lymphoblastic Leukaemia and he would need to start chemotherapy immediately. He really disliked all the injections and they opted to put in a port to avoid all the prodding and probing.
