Personal message

My name is Lester Tait and I ride for the SMILE FOUNDATION. I was born with a hare lip and cleft palate, so being the first Munga participant that was born with this disability, motivated me to finish this race.

I attempted the Munga in 2016, but had to abandon the race at Van der Kloof Dam due to my Garmin falling off my bike in the night and getting lost; without the Garmin as my route indicator, it was ‘race over.’

I am someone who does not like to fail at something I have started. So, I had unfinished business, and I vowed to return to the madness that is the Munga…

I am now proud to say that I have done it. I conquered the Munga 2017.
