This year the Madswimmer extreme swim is in Lamu Island Kenya on 26th November 2023, where about 15 swimmers will swim around Lamu island to raise funds for the Flipflopi project in Lamu (to assist them in educating the children in the responsible handling and management of plastic), LAMCOT an organisation which teaches young girls to swim, as well as to create awareness for the Lamu Marine Conservation Trust (LaMCoT).  https://www.lamcot.org/ Funds will also be raised for a South African children’s charity. 

The 26km swim route will be from Shela across the Lamu bay to Kipugani, and then along the channel to Mokowe. The swim route may be changed if required by the weather and tides on the swim day. 

Madswimmer.com is a South African registered non-profit charity organisation that hosts extreme swims in South Africa, the Southern African region, as well as globally to raise funds for children’s charities. Madswimmer has done more than 44 swims since it’s inception in 2009 and raised more than USD900000 for children’s charities.  It has a following of over 10000 fans on social media and a more than 400 swimmers from around the world have participated in these swims.Madswimmer also holds the Guinness World Record for the highest swim in the world in the Andes Mountains in South America and the lowest swim in the world across the Dead Sea.  Other notable swims include a swim crossing of Lake Malawi, 1km ice swim in Antarctica, 24km ocean swim in Tanzania, 31km ocean swim in Mozambique, 16km ocean swim in Zanzibar, just to name a few.
