~ Hello, my name is Rebecca Groome ~ 

I am a fourth year medical student at the University of Witwatersrand and a member of the Wits Students’ Surgical Society Kilimanjaro Challenge ’23 climbing team.

Together with a group of Wits Health Sciences students, I will be summiting Mount Kilimanjaro at the end of 2023 to raise funds and awareness for the Smile Foundation - a South African non-profit organisation who, together with South Africa’s Academic Hospitals, aims to put the smile back onto the faces of children with facial abnormalities through life changing facial reconstructive surgery.

Through donations to our cause, we as a group are aiming to raise a minimum of R500 000 to sponsor an entire Smile Week - a week dedicated to providing desperately needed reconstructive surgury for up to 40 children with facial abnormalities (such as burns, cleft lips and palates, and other congenital abnormalities), at no cost to the child and their family. 

Although this is an enormous task, we as a team are up to the challenge and are confident that, with your help, we can reach this target to help put the smiles back onto these children's faces.  

If you are willing to donate, we would be truly grateful. All proceeds raised here will be donated to the Smile Foundation.
