Hello, 

 

I’d like to thank you for your interest in my cause & for taking the time to consider helping me!

My name is Jodie and I’m a 23 year old Psychology student from South Africa. I’ve been battling with anorexia for the past 11 years & I’m halfway through intensive inpatient treatment at a facility in Cape Town.

 

Currently, I am facing early discharge due to not being able to fund the remainder of my treatment.

I have been in treatment since mid-December and my recovery was set to end in February. Facing early discharge has brought immense fear and worry to me. This disease is unbelievably cruel & the past month has been spent fighting back. I now know the beauty that rests in recovery and hope that by the kindness in the world, I will be able to see it to the end.

 

Due to the nature of eating disorders, each day of treatment is intensive and highly specialised. At a cost R2 560 p/d, it includes my inpatient stay & meals, as well as my medical, dietetic and psychiatric consultations. I am hoping to raise R50 000 in order to complete treatment. Anything over this amount will help me to fund outpatient treatment upon discharge. 

 

Recovery is a lifelong journey & I’m so close to finally holding and living the gifts that it brings. I never understood what people meant when they said “go get your life back” - I was so ill, I saw no issue and no urgency with my disorder but, I see it now. 

I can finally see the severity of the last 11 years and the extent of the disorder’s torment for what it is. I’ve had a taste of recovery since being inpatient and as a result, I can see the new potential of what the road in front of me could look like. I’m giving it my all in order to cross the finish line & lead a new life free of this disorder!
