Personal message
I fully believe in and support the work that Home of Hope does. I have walked alongside them for many years and seen them grow with their children. This year, I have the privilege of riding for the Living Life Project, which aims to provide young adults with Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder and other special needs with the skills they need to live their lives as independently as possible.
When children in care structures turn 18, they age out of the care system, which causes young adults to either return to the households they were removed from or be put in unfamiliar environments, which causes the cycle to repeat itself.
In addition, young adults with FASD have lifelong disabilities in various forms and severities, which is further exacerbated as they go through life and, ultimately, when they enter adulthood. They are vulnerable to secondary disabilities, such as legal issues, mental health issues, an inability to live independently, victimization, and higher unemployment rates.
Despite the severe situation that young people with special needs are in, few established support systems can help them take the next steps toward independence. Home of Hope is closing this gap by assisting these young adults as they transition into adulthood. We provide them with meaning, purpose, in-house career opportunities, social opportunities, and direction to navigate life toward self-sufficiency.
Reaching my target will mean that we have actively assisted the Living Life Project by ensuring they have the necessary resources to continue upskilling and mentoring young adults with FASD.
I want to raise funds for this commendable project as I can see that it fills a vital gap in assisting young adults with special needs. Will you assist me and actively make a difference in the lives of these young adults with Special Needs?

Home of Hope

Home of Hope was started in 2005, and we are an NPO that cares for abandoned and abused children and children with Foetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD – permanent brain damage caused by pre-natal exposure to alcohol). We are a registered place of safety and we have 19 children in our long term community based foster care.
The organisation also caters for the special educational needs of children suffering from FAS (Foetal Alcohol Syndrome) and neurological challenges, in our Amathemba Learning Centre. There are currently 37 children at our Amathemba Learning Centre.
