Personal message

The Oceans 8 Charity Swim is South Africa's first warm water ocean swim, exclusively for charity.

I am swimming for Singakwenza, a charity very close to my heart.

Singakwenza, meaning 'we can do it!', is a non-profit Organisation focusing on early childhood education. They train practitioners, parents and caregivers at the grassroots level to provide fun educational activities for children.

All their educational supplies are made from recycled materials – bread bags can become skipping ropes, margarine containers can be transformed into cars, and cereal boxes can be turned into maths games.

Their Waste 2 Toys workshops are delivered throughout Southern Africa, teaching parents, educators and caregivers how to provide fun, stimulating activities that cost nothing yet build vital foundations.

In addition, the fantastic team at Singakwenza spends two years in a crèche, teaching the practitioners how to educate children using resources they make themselves. This ensures that the children in these centres enter school intellectually and physically prepared.

They also run an occupational therapy programme ensuring no child is disadvantaged by developmental delays and an introductory bookkeeping course to ensure each crèche is run as a sustainable business.

I have been swimming in charity events for Singakwenza since 2015 and have had the privilege of supporting them with the sport I love. Please sponsor me in my crazy swim and support this remarkable group of people who equip future generations with the vital skills needed for success.

Charity Default Logo

Singakwenza exists to address the impact of poor access to quality Early Childhood Development on young children in economically disadvantaged communities. Singakwenza educates, empowers and supports practitioners, parents and caregivers to create a safe, loving and stimulating environment that will unlock their preschooler's ability to develop resilience, learn through play, and reach their full potential. This is done through a sustainable learning program that uses resources made solely from recycling.
